The parliament office decided on Thursday to send the draft organic law amending and supplementing Law 27/1993 relating to the national identity card and the draft organic law amending and supplementing Law No. 40 dated May 14 1975 relating to passports and travel documents, at the plenary session scheduled for March 6.
Read more: Bills relating to national identity card and travel documents to be discussed by parliament on March 6The Minister of the Interior underlined the importance of the two bills, since they will allow Tunisia to keep up to date with modern technologies at the international level in terms of identity documents and of travel. The Tunisian State will thus have respected the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) which recommends a simplification and acceleration of administrative procedures, as part of the modernization and digitalization of the administration.
The Committee on Rights and Freedoms also discussed the legal and technical guarantees for the storage and protection of data, as well as the logistical and technical means necessary to carry out this ambitious project.
It should be noted that the biometric identity card is an identity document that contains biometric data such as fingerprints or the facial photograph of the person holding it. Biometrics allows the identification and authentication of a person based on recognizable and verifiable data, which is specific to him and which is unique. This data is used to authenticate the identity of the person and prevent identity theft.
